ROUTE 1 ¡ VISA ON ARRIVAL

Italian Passport Holder

If you travel on a valid Italian passport, no advance tourist-visa application is normally required. Eligible Italian citizens receive a multiple-entry 90-day visit permission valid over a 180-day period.

Check Italian Entry Rules
ROUTE 2 ¡ CHECK OR APPLY

Foreign Resident in Italy

Your permesso di soggiorno proves legal residence, but it does not replace your passport. Your nationality and residence-permit validity decide whether you need advance approval or qualify for a conditional route.

Dubai Visa for Italy Residents—answer in 20 seconds: Italian citizen? You normally receive a visa on arrival. Non-Italian citizen living in Italy? Check your passport and Italian residence permit before booking; you may need a pre-arranged visa or may qualify for a special 14-day or 60-day route.

Do Italy Residents Need a Visa for Dubai?

Dubai Visa for Italy Residents rules depend mainly on the passport used for travel, then on the validity and type of residence document where a special route applies.

This Italy-specific guide is part of our broader Dubai Visa for EU Residents guide, which explains the difference between EU citizenship, an EU residence permit and nationality-based UAE entry requirements.

Status in ItalyDubai/UAE visa positionWhat to do
Italian citizensNormally eligible for a 90-day visa on arrivalNo advance tourist-visa application
EU citizens living in ItalyUsually visa on arrival when their passport is on the eligible listCheck the passport nationality
Non-EU residents living in ItalyMany need a pre-arranged visa; selected permit holders may qualify for a conditional routeCheck passport and residence permit
A residence permit does not replace passport eligibility. Family members with different passports can have different visa routes.

Dubai Visa for Italy Residents: Who Can Apply From Italy?

Foreign nationals legally living in Italy can apply when their passport requires advance UAE approval. The route depends on nationality, Italian residence status and travel purpose.

  • Indian passport holders residing in Italy: check the conditional permit route or see the Indian guide.
  • Pakistani passport holders residing in Italy: usually need advance approval; see the Pakistani guide.
  • Filipino passport holders residing in Italy: check the updated permit route or see the Filipino guide.
  • Nigerian passport holders residing in Italy: require nationality-specific review; see the Nigerian guide.
  • Bangladeshi passport holders residing in Italy: DubaiVisa.com does not currently accept these applications; use an eligible official or authorised route.
  • Egyptian, Moroccan and other foreign residents: check passport-specific rules; Moroccan applicants can use the Morocco guide.

Workers, Students and Family Dependants Living in Italy

  • Workers: employed residents can apply with a valid passport and Italian work-based residence permit.
  • Students: international students can submit a valid student residence permit with their passport and photograph.
  • Family dependants: spouse, child and dependent permit holders can apply, but every traveller requires an individual assessment.
  • Other residence permit holders: long-term residents and EU Blue Card holders can request a passport-and-permit eligibility check.
Updated residence-permit route: India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Kenya and South Africa are included in the selected-nationality route for qualifying holders of valid permits from accepted countries, including EU member states. Review the official ICP announcement.

Italian Passport Holders and UAE Visa on Arrival

Italian citizens are included in the multiple-entry 90-day visa-on-arrival category, valid over 180 days. Check the permission recorded by immigration.

Italian travellers should carry:

  • A passport valid for at least six months
  • A confirmed return or onward ticket
  • Hotel confirmation or UAE host address
  • Travel insurance and evidence of funds if requested

Confirm the current airline list on the Emirates UAE visa page. Entry remains at immigration’s discretion.

Dubai Visa From Italy by Travel Purpose

Selecting the correct purpose helps the document review team understand your trip and identify the most suitable tourist or transit option.

Dubai Visa for Tourism

For holidays, sightseeing, shopping and leisure travel. A 30-day single-entry option is the most common choice.

Family and Friend Visits

For visiting relatives or friends in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or another emirate. Host details or proof of relationship may be requested.

Short Business Visits

For meetings, exhibitions and conferences. A tourist or visit visa does not authorise employment or paid work in the UAE.

Dubai Stopovers

Eligible passengers leaving the airport during a short connection can consider a 48-hour or 96-hour transit visa.

Compare the wider requirements in our UAE tourist visa guide, or start directly from the Dubai visa application page.

Documents Required for a Dubai Visa from Italy

Prepare clear, uncropped colour files. In our experience, incomplete passport edges and unreadable Italian residence cards are common causes of avoidable document-review delays.

Passport

Bio page, usually with at least six months’ validity.

Photograph

Recent colour passport-style photo on a clear background.

Italy Residence Permit

Front and back of the valid permesso di soggiorno, where applicable.

Travel Details

Flight, accommodation or host details may be requested based on the case.

  • Make sure names, birth dates and passport numbers match exactly.
  • Include the passport cover if requested during document review.
  • Children require their own passport and visa assessment.
  • Additional supporting documents can be requested depending on nationality or immigration history.

Dubai Visa for Italy Residence Permit Holders

A valid permesso di soggiorno demonstrates that you live legally in Italy. It may support a pre-arranged application and, for selected nationalities, may help establish eligibility for the special UAE residence-permit route.

Italian search terms: “Dubai visa con permesso di soggiorno,” “visto Dubai per residenti in Italia” and “UAE visa for Italian residence permit holders” all refer to the same core check: passport nationality plus a valid Italian residence document.

UAE Visa for Italy Residence Card Holders

The card must be current, readable and valid for the journey. It supports residency evidence but does not replace passport eligibility.

Can I Apply With a Permesso di Soggiorno?

Yes, eligible foreign residents can provide a valid permesso di soggiorno with their passport and photograph. The exact route depends on the passport, permit validity, visa category and current UAE immigration rules.

Can EU Blue Card Holders in Italy Apply?

Yes. An Italian EU Blue Card can prove legal residence, but it does not guarantee visa-free entry. Passport nationality still determines the route.

Check that:

  • The residence permit is valid on the planned date of UAE entry.
  • Your passport and residence permit show consistent personal details.
  • You can provide a clear front-and-back copy.
  • You are travelling with the same passport used in the application.
Important: An Italian residence permit does not turn a non-Italian passport into an Italian passport. It may affect eligibility, but it never replaces the passport used for travel.

Dubai Visa Processing Time and Cost from Italy

ServiceTypical processing windowBest for
Standard24–72 working hoursPlanned travel
ExpressAbout 10–12 working hoursUrgent eligible applications
Super ExpressAbout 6–12 working hoursTime-sensitive eligible applications

Processing starts after the complete, readable documents and payment are received. Weekends, UAE public holidays, nationality-specific verification and requests for additional documents can extend the timeline.

Express processing charges are not one fixed amount for every applicant. They depend on nationality, visa type and service availability. The urgent-service charge must be confirmed and displayed before you pay.

Common Reasons Dubai Visa Applications From Italy Are Delayed or Rejected

UAE immigration reviews every case independently. Avoiding basic document and data errors can reduce preventable delays.

Unclear Documents

Blurred, cropped or reflective passport and residence-card images can prevent verification.

Validity Problems

A passport with insufficient validity or an expired Italian residence permit may affect eligibility.

Data Mismatches

Different spellings, dates, passport numbers or incomplete names can trigger additional checks.

Immigration History

Previous UAE overstays, unresolved applications or immigration restrictions can affect a new decision.

Document-review tip: Upload the complete passport bio page, a recent photograph and both sides of the Italian residence document. Use the same passport for application and travel.

What Happens After Your UAE Visa Is Approved?

The approved permit is normally delivered as a PDF by email. Before travelling:

  1. Check the name, passport number, birth date and visa category.
  2. Distinguish the final entry date from the permitted stay after entry.
  3. Save the PDF offline and carry a printed copy.
  4. Carry your return ticket, accommodation details and residence card.
  5. Leave or arrange an eligible extension before expiry.

Tourist visas are generally not tied to one airline, although transit or sponsor-linked permits may have itinerary conditions. Check our post-approval airline guide before changing flights.

Can Italy Residents Extend a UAE Tourist Visa?

Extension eligibility depends on the visa category and the issuing authority’s rules at the time. Some tourist entry permits may be extendable, while the special 60-day residence-permit visa announced by ICP is single entry and non-extendable. The related 14-day category may be extended once.

What to carry at UAE immigration

  • The passport used in the application
  • A printed or offline copy of the UAE eVisa, if pre-arranged
  • Valid Italian residence permit, when relevant to eligibility
  • Return/onward ticket and accommodation details

An approved UAE tourist visa can generally be used to enter through Dubai or another eligible UAE airport and to travel between Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the other Emirates. There is no separate “Dubai-only” tourist visa for domestic travel inside the UAE.

For extension, overstay and in-country status guidance, see the current UAE visa extension and overstay guide. Check eligibility before the visa expires; do not assume every visa category can be extended.
