Do South Asian Passport Holders Need a Dubai Visa?

Most South Asian passport holders should obtain the required UAE entry permission before departure, but there are important passport-specific exceptions.

Advance visa is usually required

Pakistani, Nepali, Sri Lankan and Bhutanese ordinary passport holders generally use a pre-arranged UAE tourist or transit visa when travelling for a short visit. Indian passport holders normally apply in advance unless they meet a recognised conditional entry-on-arrival route.

Maldivian passport exception

Maldivian ordinary passport holders are currently listed by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs as visa-exempt for eligible short visits. Travellers must still carry a valid passport and meet the border conditions operating on the travel date.

Service restriction: Bangladesh and Afghanistan are geographically part of South Asia, but DubaiVisa.com does not currently accept applications from Bangladeshi or Afghan passport holders.

  • Front and back of the residence card where applicable

Common questions

Dubai Visa for South Asia: Frequently Asked Questions

Do South Asian passport holders need a Dubai visa?

Most require advance UAE entry permission, but the answer depends on the exact passport. Maldivian ordinary passport holders currently have a visa-exempt route, while selected Indian passport holders may qualify for a conditional arrival route.

Is a Dubai visa different from a UAE visa?

Dubai visa is the common search term. The legal entry permission is issued for the United Arab Emirates rather than only Dubai city.

Can Pakistani citizens apply online?

Eligible Pakistani applicants can complete the assisted tourist or transit visa process online and submit any supporting documents requested for their profile.

Can Indian passport holders receive a visa on arrival?

Some Indian nationals may qualify for a conditional 14-day route when they hold a qualifying foreign visa or residence permit with the required remaining validity. Otherwise, apply in advance.

Do Maldivian citizens need to buy a UAE tourist visa?

Maldivian ordinary passport holders are currently listed by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs as visa-exempt for eligible short visits. Confirm the latest requirements before departure rather than purchasing an unnecessary visa.

Can South Asian citizens living in the GCC apply?

Yes, when their passport requires advance permission. Submit valid GCC residence evidence when relevant. GCC residence alone does not guarantee UAE entry.

Can families submit their applications together?

Yes, family files can be coordinated together, but every traveller—including children and infants—requires a separate application and visa where advance approval is required.

How long does processing take?

Standard processing is commonly estimated at 24–72 working hours after complete documents are accepted. Faster options may be available, but timing and approval are not guaranteed.

How much is a Dubai visa from South Asia?

Displayed prices currently begin at $100 for a 48-hour transit visa. The 14-day tourist visa is $122, the 30-day single-entry visa is $125 and the 60-day single-entry visa is $220.

Can the same visa be used for Dubai and Abu Dhabi?

Yes. An approved UAE tourist visa is not limited to Dubai and can generally be used across all seven Emirates, subject to its issued conditions.

Can I work using a Dubai tourist visa?

No. Tourist and transit visas do not authorise employment. A separate official work-permit and residence process applies.

Can I track the application online?

Yes. Use the DubaiVisa.com tracking page with the relevant application details after submission.

What happens if the visa is refused?

Visa approval is at UAE immigration discretion. Visible document issues can be reviewed, but approval cannot be promised and government decisions cannot be overridden by a private service provider.

Does DubaiVisa.com serve Bangladeshi or Afghan passports?

No. DubaiVisa.com does not currently accept applications from Bangladesh or Afghanistan passport holders.
