Flying to Dubai During Peak Season: A Pre-Departure Checklist

Flying to Dubai during peak season? Dubai’s main visitor peak runs from October to March, with particularly busy year-end travel dates. Check your passport, UAE entry route, flight and accommodation before departure. This checklist helps you avoid problems at check-in.

For holidays, family visits and short trips during Dubai’s busiest visitor months.

When Is Dubai’s Peak Travel Season?

Dubai’s main tourism peak is October to March, when cooler weather makes outdoor activities more comfortable. December and the year-end holiday period can bring especially heavy airport traffic.

School breaks and major holidays can create busy travel days outside those months too. If you are travelling for Eid or another event, check that year’s dates and your airline’s updates rather than relying on a fixed annual schedule.

During peak dates, leave room in your plans for busy flights, longer airport procedures and changes to connection times. Confirm your hotel’s check-in arrangements if your arrival is late at night.

Check Your UAE Entry Requirements First

UAE entry requirements depend on the passport you will use, its type and any qualifying residence status. Some travellers can obtain permission on arrival. Others need an approved tourist visa before boarding.

Your country of departure does not automatically give you the entry conditions of its citizens. If you live abroad on a residence permit, check whether that permit qualifies for a specific UAE route.

Passport

Check validity

Your passport generally needs at least six months of validity from your UAE entry date. Use the same passport for your booking and visa application.

Entry route

Check eligibility

Confirm visa-on-arrival eligibility or arrange an advance visa. A foreign residence card does not automatically guarantee either route.

Issued visa

Check the details

Match your name and passport number. Read the permitted entry period, number of entries and allowed stay on the approved document.

Choose a Visa That Fits Your Trip

If your passport needs an advance visa and your trip lasts no more than two weeks, a 14-day single-entry option may fit. Choose express processing only if it is available for your application and your departure date is close.

For a longer holiday, compare the 30- and 60-day options. These are starting assisted-service prices; your passport nationality, entry type and processing choice determine the final amount before payment.

Match Your Passport, Visa and Booking

Compare the name, date of birth and passport number on your flight booking and visa. If you renewed your passport after applying, contact the visa provider and airline before travel.

Save your approved visa as a file on your phone if one is required. Keep your accommodation address and return or onward booking available if the airline or entry route asks for them.

01 / Identity

Passport and visa

Carry the passport used for the visa application. Check that its details match the approved document.

02 / Journey

Flight booking

Check every departure date, airport, terminal and connecting flight on the itinerary.

03 / Stay

Arrival details

Keep your hotel or host address, contact number and onward travel details easy to access.

The visa’s last entry date is different from its allowed length of stay. Read both conditions on your issued visa before you travel.

Check Connections and Baggage

If your journey includes another airport, check whether both flights are on one booking. Ask the airline whether your bags will go directly to Dubai or must be collected and checked in again.

A separate ticket may require you to pass immigration at the connection point. Check the transit country’s entry rules if you must collect baggage, change airports or leave the international transit area.

  • Confirm the airport code on every flight segment.
  • Check how much time you have between flights.
  • Confirm where you will collect your checked baggage.
  • Save each booking reference if you have separate tickets.

Travelling with Children?

Check each child’s passport and entry route separately. Do not assume that a parent’s visa covers a child or that every family member will receive the same visa decision at the same time.

If a child travels with one parent, a guardian or someone with a different surname, ask the airline whether relationship or consent evidence is needed for that journey.

Keep passports and any requested family documents in hand luggage. Make sure the names on children’s bookings and visa applications match their passports.

Follow the Timing Set by Your Airline

For your flight to Dubai, follow the check-in time provided by your departure airport and airline. Allow time for traffic, baggage drop, passport checks and security during busy travel dates.

For a later flight departing Dubai, Dubai Airports generally recommends reaching the airport at least three hours before departure. Also check your airline’s counter-closing and boarding-gate deadlines.

Check whether your return flight departs from DXB or another UAE airport. Similar departure times do not mean the flights use the same terminal.

Plan Your First Hour in Dubai

Save your hotel or host address before landing. If someone is collecting you, share your flight number and arrival terminal, since baggage collection and immigration may affect your exit time.

Check your accommodation’s check-in hours. If you arrive late, confirm that someone will be available. Decide how you will reach your hotel before leaving the airport.

Your Day-Before-Departure Check

Review these items the evening before you fly. If a flight changes or a document contains an error, you may still have time to contact the airline or visa provider.

  • Your passport, visa and booking names match.
  • Your passport meets the validity rule for your entry route.
  • Your visa, if required, is approved for your arrival date.
  • Your flight time, airport and terminal are confirmed.
  • Your baggage and connection arrangements are clear.
  • Residence evidence and child documents are ready if needed.
  • Essential documents are saved offline on your phone.

Keep your passport, required visa, medicine and other essentials in hand luggage, subject to airline rules. Resolve a passport or visa mismatch before travelling to the airport.

Peak-Season Travel Questions

Which months are Dubai’s peak season?

The main visitor peak is October to March. Year-end holidays can bring especially busy travel dates. School breaks and major events may create additional peaks.

Does peak season change UAE visa requirements?

No. Your entry route still depends on your passport and any qualifying residence status. Check eligibility early so there is time to correct an incomplete application.

Can I get a Dubai visa within 24 hours?

Express processing targets delivery within 24 hours for eligible, complete applications. Additional checks can take longer, and approval by a fixed time is not guaranteed.

How early should I reach the airport?

For a flight to Dubai, follow your departure airline and airport. For a flight leaving Dubai, Dubai Airports generally recommends arriving at least three hours before departure.

Which tourist visa is suitable for a short trip?

If you need an advance visa and will enter the UAE once for no more than two weeks, check the 14-day single-entry option. Confirm its availability for your passport before applying.

Check Your Visa Route Before You Fly

If your passport needs an advance UAE tourist visa, check the available options before the final rush of packing and check-in. Select your nationality to see the application requirements and final price.
