Do Asian Passport Holders Need a Dubai Visa?

There is no single rule for all Asian passports. Your passport nationality is the main factor, while a valid foreign residence permit or visa can change the entry route for selected nationalities.

Pre-arranged visaMany South Asian and West Asian ordinary passport holders generally obtain a UAE tourist or transit visa before departure.
Arrival routeSeveral East and Southeast Asian passports qualify for 30-day or 90-day arrival entry without arranging a tourist visa in advance.
Conditional arrivalSelected Indian, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Thai and Filipino travellers may qualify when they hold specified valid foreign visas or residence permits.
Dubai visa and UAE visa mean the same entry permission: an approved UAE tourist visa generally allows eligible travel through Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah, subject to its conditions.

Common Asia travel questions

Dubai Visa for Asia: Frequently Asked Questions

Do all Asian passport holders need a Dubai visa?

No. The route varies by passport. Some Asian passports have 30-day or 90-day arrival access, selected nationalities have conditional arrival options, and many others need a pre-arranged UAE visa.

Is a Dubai visa different from a UAE visa?

No. A Dubai tourist visa is a UAE entry permission. When issued and used under its conditions, it generally allows travel across all seven Emirates.

Which Asian passports have a published arrival route?

The current published lists include passports such as Brunei, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Macau, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, China, Japan, Maldives, Singapore and South Korea, among others. Verify the current list before travel.

Can Filipino, Thai, Indonesian and Vietnamese travellers get a visa on arrival?

Eligible ordinary passport holders may qualify for a 14-day or 60-day route when they hold a specified valid foreign visa or residence permit. Holding the passport alone is not enough for this conditional category.

Can Indian passport holders get a UAE visa on arrival?

Selected Indian ordinary passport holders can qualify when they hold an eligible foreign visa, Green Card or residence permit that meets the current validity conditions. Other Indian travellers should arrange the required visa before departure.

Can Asian citizens apply while living outside their home country?

Yes, eligible applicants can apply from their country of legal residence. A valid residence card, visa or permit may be requested and can affect the available route for selected passports.

How long does a Dubai visa take?

The stated standard service time is 24–72 working hours after a complete application is accepted. Express or Super Express may be available, but no processing option guarantees issuance.

What documents are normally required?

Start with the passport bio page, external passport cover, recent white-background photograph and any national ID or residence evidence relevant to the route. Additional travel, accommodation or family documents may be requested.

Do children need separate UAE visas?

Yes. Every child and infant needs an individual passport assessment and separate visa when their nationality and route require one. Parental or birth documents may also be requested.

Can one UAE tourist visa be used for Abu Dhabi and Sharjah?

Yes. An issued UAE tourist visa generally allows eligible travel within Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the other Emirates during the authorised stay, subject to its entry conditions.

Can a tourist visa be extended?

Extension eligibility depends on the issued visa and current immigration rules. Transit visas and some conditional arrival routes may be non-extendable. Request advice before the stay expires.

What happens if the application is rejected?

Approval is solely an immigration decision. Review the refusal context, passport validity, document quality, previous UAE records and whether a corrected or different route is permitted before considering another application.
