Dubai Visa for Malaysians – UAE Visa on Arrival & Entry Requirements

For most short trips from Malaysia to Dubai, Malaysian citizens travelling on an ordinary passport do not need to arrange a UAE tourist visa before departure. Eligible Malaysian passport holders currently receive a free 30-day UAE visit visa on arrival, subject to passport validity and final immigration checks.

This guide explains the Malaysia-to-Dubai visa rule, documents to carry, longer-stay and multiple-entry options, transit situations, family travel and what to check before flying.

Do Malaysian Citizens Need a Dubai Visa?

Malaysian ordinary passport holders do not currently need to obtain a UAE tourist visa before travel for the standard 30-day visit. On arrival in Dubai or another UAE entry point, eligible travellers can receive a 30-day visit visa without advance visa arrangements.

The rule is based on the passport used for travel. A person living in Malaysia but travelling on a different nationality's passport must check the UAE entry requirement for that passport. For broader visa information, see the Dubai Visa main guide.

Important: visa-on-arrival eligibility does not guarantee admission. Airlines can check travel documents before boarding, and UAE immigration makes the final entry decision.

Dubai Visa Options for Malaysians

How Malaysians Travel to Dubai Without a Pre-Arranged Tourist Visa

For a standard short visit, there is no online UAE tourist visa application to complete before departure. The process is primarily an entry check on arrival.

Check Passport

Confirm that you are travelling on an eligible Malaysian passport with sufficient validity.

Prepare Booking

Keep return or onward travel and accommodation details ready.

Fly to the UAE

Travel to Dubai, Abu Dhabi or another UAE entry point.

Clear Immigration

Present your passport and answer any entry questions.

Receive Permission

Eligible Malaysians are granted the 30-day visit permission on arrival.

If your trip needs a pre-arranged visa because of a different passport, longer-stay plan or specific entry route, use the Dubai visa online application guide before submitting anything.
Timing

Dubai Visa Processing Time for Malaysians

For the normal 30-day Malaysia passport route, there is no advance tourist visa processing time because the visit visa is issued on arrival after immigration checks.

24–72 hrsTypical pre-arranged processing when a separate eligible visa is actually required
Case by CaseExtra immigration review can take longer
Express processing may be available for eligible pre-arranged applications, but it does not replace or speed up the standard Malaysian visa-on-arrival process.

UAE Visa Validity and Stay Duration for Malaysians

30-Day Visa on Arrival

The normal Malaysian passport entry route allows a 30-day visit from arrival, subject to the permission granted by UAE immigration.

Single vs Multiple Entry

A visa on arrival and a pre-arranged tourist visa are not the same product. If you need repeated UAE entries, confirm the correct multiple-entry route before travel.

Longer Than 30 Days

Do not assume you can simply remain after the 30-day permission. Check the current extension or longer-stay option before the permitted period expires.

Before flying

Important Travel Checklist from Malaysia to Dubai

Check the expiry date, condition and name spelling before you book or travel.

Return / Onward Ticket

Keep proof of your onward travel available for airline or immigration checks.

Accommodation

Carry your hotel confirmation or the full address and contact details of your UAE host.

Funds

Be prepared to show that you can support your trip if the airline or immigration requests evidence.

Family Documents

For children or special family situations, keep relationship or consent documents available where relevant.

Current Entry Rule

Recheck Malaysia's UAE entry status shortly before departure because immigration rules can change.

Avoid problems

Common Reasons for Entry Delays or Visa Refusals

Malaysian passport holders usually use the visa-on-arrival route, but entry can still be delayed or refused. Pre-arranged applications can also face additional review.

Low Passport Validity

A passport close to expiry can cause airline or immigration problems.

Damaged or Unreadable Passport

Physical damage, unreadable details or document irregularities can lead to additional checks.

Booking Details Do Not Match

Names and travel information should match the passport used for the journey.

Missing Supporting Information

Return travel or accommodation details may be requested even when a visa was not required before departure.

Previous UAE Immigration Issues

Overstay, unresolved visa history or other immigration records can affect entry or future applications.

Additional Immigration Review

Final admission is always subject to UAE immigration assessment at the border.

Malaysia-specific questions

Dubai Visa for Malaysians: Frequently Asked Questions

Do Malaysians need a visa for Dubai?

Malaysian ordinary passport holders currently do not need to arrange a UAE tourist visa before departure for the standard short visit. Eligible travellers receive a free 30-day visit visa on arrival.

Is the Dubai visa on arrival free for Malaysian citizens?

Yes. Current UAE Embassy in Kuala Lumpur and Emirates guidance lists Malaysian passport holders for a 30-day visa on arrival without advance visa arrangements.

How long can Malaysians stay in Dubai on arrival?

The normal visa-on-arrival permission is 30 days, subject to the entry permission granted by UAE immigration.

Can Malaysians apply for a Dubai tourist visa online?

For a normal stay of up to 30 days, an advance tourist visa is usually unnecessary. A pre-arranged route should only be considered where a different stay length, entry pattern or traveller situation makes it appropriate.

What are the Dubai visa requirements for Malaysian passport holders?

The key requirement is an eligible Malaysian passport in acceptable condition with sufficient validity. Return or onward travel and accommodation information may also be requested by the airline or immigration.

How much passport validity do Malaysians need for Dubai?

A passport valid for at least six months is the safest standard for UAE travel and airline document checks.

Can Malaysians get a 60-day Dubai tourist visa?

A longer-stay pre-arranged route may be available depending on the current issuer and immigration rules. Check eligibility before applying because the normal Malaysian route is the free 30-day visa on arrival.

Is a 30-day paid tourist visa necessary for Malaysians?

Normally no. If you hold an eligible Malaysian ordinary passport and only need the standard short visit, the 30-day visa on arrival is the appropriate route.

Can Malaysians use a multiple-entry UAE visa?

Pre-arranged multiple-entry visas exist for eligible travel situations. If your itinerary requires repeated UAE entries, confirm the correct option before applying.

Do Malaysians need a Dubai transit visa?

Malaysian passport holders entering the UAE can normally use their visa-on-arrival eligibility. Travellers remaining airside or using a specific stopover arrangement should confirm transit requirements with the airline.

Can a Malaysian visa on arrival be used to visit Abu Dhabi?

Yes. The entry permission is for the United Arab Emirates, not only Dubai, so admitted visitors can travel between emirates subject to UAE laws and their immigration conditions.

Can Malaysians enter through Abu Dhabi or Sharjah instead of Dubai?

Malaysia's entry eligibility applies to the UAE. Procedures can vary by airline and port of entry, so confirm the practical requirements before departure.

Do Malaysian children need a separate visa?

Children travelling on eligible Malaysian passports follow the applicable UAE entry rule for their own travel documents. Carry any parent, guardian or relationship documents that may be required for the journey.

Can a Malaysian citizen living in the UK, GCC or another country use the same rule?

The UAE entry route is principally based on the Malaysian passport used for travel. Residence documents may still be relevant for airline, transit or local departure requirements.

Does Malaysian permanent residence give a non-Malaysian passport holder the same visa benefit?

No. Malaysian residence does not automatically give another nationality the Malaysian passport visa-on-arrival entitlement. The traveller must check the UAE rule for their own passport.

Is a return ticket required for Malaysians travelling to Dubai?

Airlines or immigration may request evidence of onward or return travel, so keep the confirmed booking available.

Is a hotel booking required for Malaysians entering Dubai?

Accommodation details may be requested. Carry a hotel confirmation or the address and contact information for the place where you will stay.

What happens if a Malaysian traveller is delayed or refused entry?

Airline or immigration officers may request additional documents or conduct further checks. Final entry decisions rest with UAE immigration, and visa-on-arrival eligibility does not guarantee admission.
